25-Patch Quilt Top!

The quilt top is done!

25-Patch blocks alternated with Mosaic neutral blocks.

Those white-and-cream blocks ... Are they "made fabric" blocks? Yes! Are they "scrap vortex" blocks? Yes! Not sure what to call them. But I love them!

This quilt top even looks cool from the BACK! 

From the back, it reminds me of a stained-glass window. (Which reminds me ... I have a couple kinds of stained-glass window quilts that I'd love to make!)

Whatever Wednesday

Here's my Wednesday report on random projects:

This crumb quilt is nearly ready for quilting. It's a baby quilt for a friend. It needs a border, and the backing needs a patchwork insert to bring it up to size. I'm planning on black-and-white striped binding.

 

All 32 of my 25-patch blocks are ready, and all 31 of my neutral "made fabric" (a.k.a. "scrap vortex") blocks are ready. I'm starting to assemble them! It should make a twin-size quilt.

  

 

The Pumpkins quilt top is done -- I love the look of it with the borders on! Next up, I need to tweak the backing so it's the right size, and then ... quilting!

  

In knitting news, I realized I haven't yet posted a picture of the finished purple socks.

 And, since early May, I've been working on a new pair of socks.

And, in the "whatever" category, I've been trying to add some color to my flowerbeds, so these clearance items from Lowe's should help!

I love crumb quilts lately! I guess it's sort of a full-circle thing. Seems like my first-ever blog post was about "made fabric" crumb quilting. Still love it!

Gingham Mosaic

The other day, I mentioned trying out a new idea, in gingham and white (my Flying Geese Circle). I've been collecting ideas for designs that would look great in gingham. (Already have ooodles of quilt-y inspiration on my Pinterest Quilt/Sewing Ideas board ... and my Pinterest "Likes")

My oldest daughter suggested that I try making some sort of sampler quilt top. Great idea! Something where every block is different, and I get to pick what to make. And I get to try out some new techniques, and make some old techniques look awesome in gingham and white. Super!

So, this mosaic look is an idea I've been wanting to try. Kind of a stained-glass, crazy-quilt, made-fabric sort of thing. It's like what some blogs call "Mod Mosaic" (though I'm not sure whether I used the same exact process, because I didn't download the Mod Mosaic tutorial.) 

I had a lot of fun with this. It's sort of random and mosaic-y and colorful and a little weird. It still looks a little messy in the picture below, because I haven't trimmed the edges, but this thing measures nearly 13" square, so I'll probably trim it to 12" or so. And add some white around it. Fun! I like it.

Little Quilt Circles

I had such fun making this quilt for my newest baby niece ...

Here's a close-up ... I was pleased with how the hand-quilted circles in matching colors turned out ...

There were more pictures, but the computer ate them somewhere  between the SD card and the hard drive.  (Yikes.)

This quilt has been in progress for a few weeks ... I mentioned it in this post and in this post ... And I drew a lot of inspiration from this quilt and these blocks, as well as a circles quilt in this book ...

The rainbow look was fun (I love variety!), and the crazy-quilty-ness was fun (I love "made fabric"!), and the circles were fun (I love quilt circles!). 

Fun quilt. And I'm excited for my sister and her family as they welcome their newest little one.

Color Splash!

I'm pleased to have finished the "Color Splash" Quilt Top that I mentioned in this post, and this post, and this post.

I had a lot of fun with the crazy-quilty "made fabric", and I like the way the blocks all seem to "float" on the light background.

   

 

A lot of my inspiration came from these awesome quilt pictures at psiquilt.com, and the tutorials on posts like this at 15minutesplay.com

It was a lot of fun to go from my first few blocks, and my first few tries at layout ...

  

...to a lot of finished blocks, and a lot of blocks in a layout ...

... to a finished quilt top! (This thing is huge! 74" x 96"!)

I'm listing it on eBay as a quilt top, so that somebody can buy it and have fun quilting it! Take a look at it at this eBay listing, or check out my whole list of auctions.

The crazy-quilty-look isn't usually my favorite style, but I LOVE the way these crazy-quilt blocks turned out with the color-coordinated scraps turned into a block. I'm definitely planning to do more with this style ... Stay tuned ...
