More Custom Baby Name Quilts

In a post the other day, I mentioned making Custom Baby Name Quilts ... because they make great gifts. I got inspired to make a few more!

I got a lot of quilting done relatively fast thanks to my Flynn Multi-Frame. (I've blogged about it before ... including posts here and here.) Not many people seem to use a quilting frame with a regular sewing machine, but it's a great option!

The frame quilting is not something I do all the time, and it does take some getting used to, but I LOVE the results!

After a lot of quilting ...

... and a lot of binding ...

... I've got some adorable pink flannel-and-cotton quilts in my Etsy shop -- these are ready to customize and personalize!

Custom-lettering is a fun way to personalize a quilt ... These quilts are specifically made to allow for a baby name to be quilted in!

A Little Bargello Quilt

Bargello quilts are fun. 

Way back a couple years ago, when I made a black and pink bargello quilt top, I planned a layout for a little bargello quilt made from the leftovers.

I got it started, but the quilt top sat nearly finished for ages. 

Until recently.

I finished up the quilt top, and I quilted it.

It's a small quilt - 39" x 54" great for a lap-quilt or baby quilt.

Since I don't know anyone who needs a little black and pink quilt right now, this one is listed for sale on eBay. (See this item, or all my listings.)

I love how the quilting turned out ...

 

It's an allover meandering free-motion pattern ...

The backing is a tiny gray floral. 

 

Technically, there's no gray in the quilt top, but it works!

It was fun to use some scraps to make something useful!

 

What I got for Christmas ...

My wonderful husband thinks of the nicest gifts ...

For Christmas, he got me a quilting frame that works with a regular sewing machine!

 

 

It's a Flynn Multi-Frame, and I'm loving it. It's a handy little setup that holds and tensions the quilt back separately from the quilt top, while holding everything together securely enough that no basting is required.

 

 

Welcome to wrinkle-free quilt backs! Yay!



 

This quilt frame allows for the kind of free-motion-quilting that I love, with very few limitations.

 

For now, the quilt frame rods are sized for small quilts, but the rods are interchangeable for longer ones, so that's a great option to look into soon.

This is progress on one of those baby quilts I started a couple months ago.

 

 

With my new quilt frame, I've already quilted 3 little quilts, and I'm thrilled! 

 

The pictures in this post are pictures of just one of those three just-quilted quilts. (White on the front, pinks and purples on the back.)

 

I had fun trying out a lot of little favorite FMQ designs on this one, with fun results.

 

I have a bit more customizing to do on this quilt, and then binding, so I should have a "finished" post on this one soon.

 

So far, so good!
