Shirts-and-Jeans Quilt

During the past few months, I've finished several quilts, but I've been short on "blogging time", so, I'll be playing catch-up for a bit, sharing some quilts I've finished lately.

Several weeks ago (see this post), I mentioned the Shirts-and-Jeans quilt that I finished. I've been meaning to add a few more pictures of that quilt.

Lately, I've been blogging from my phone a lot, since blogging from my phone is usually faster. (Snap a pic ... write some words ... press publish -- that works pretty efficiently, and efficiency is key some days!)

In order for my pictures to be "more interesting", I've been trying out the concept of outdoor pictures of quilts.

While I've never been one to take my quilts on field trips, or lay them in the grass/snow/tree ... this one kind of worked.

The more natural light, the better, right?

I stuck the quilt to the metal shed with super-strong magnets. Like I said, it kind of worked. :-)
(Full disclosure: There was another quilt that did not fare so well, and did not stay up long enough for a pic. So I don't necessarily recommend this method!)

Shirts and Jeans. A classic combination.
This one's about twin-size ... 65" x 75".
This quilt is for sale on eBay for a little while.

Just finished Shirts and Jeans Quilt

This was a fun quilt to finish up this week.

I mentioned this one a couple weeks ago ...

Jeans squares, surrounded by little colorful squares of shirt fabrics. There are 42 jeans squares, and over 800 little colorful squares!

I've made several jeans quilts (see the "Jeans" label in my blog sidebar), but this is the first one I've made that included cotton shirt fabrics. The solids, plaids, stripes, and prints add a lot to the quilt.

This quilt measures 65" x 75", so it's nice and big. It's backed with new fleece, so it's warm and cozy.

For a little while, this quilt is available for sale on eBay.

When Friday comes, I'll be linking this post to Finish It Up Friday at CrazyMomQuilts, and I'll be interested to get some more great inspiration from other quilters' finishes that are linked there.

I'm working on a Jeans Quilt

This one has been a lot of fun already! I'm hoping to have more pictures soon. But for now, here's my inspiration ... This Pin, a picture of somebody else's jeans quilt. I LOVE the style! Turns out, my rendition of this quilt requires somewhere past 700 of those little colored squares! That's s good thing, though: I'm finally starting to make a dent in my big box of shirt-plaids!

New (Recycled!) things for sale ...

When I discovered T-Shirt Yarn, I was amazed at how nice it is to crochet with it. (See some of my other recycled T-Shirt projects by clicking the "T-Shirt Crafts" label in my blog sidebar.)

Earlier this year, when I had more T-Shirts that I could possibly use for a while, I made a set of T-Shirt Yarns to see if they would sell on eBay.

As it turns out, a lot of crafters seem to like the opportunity to buy already-made T-Shirt Yarn at a reasonable price.

So, when I have time, I've been making T-Shirt Yarn to sell on eBay and in my Etsy shop.

I love the fact that I can pass these along to people who will make beautiful things from them.

In the same vein, I've done a lot of quilt-making with Jeans and Denim (See "Jeans" or "Denim" in the labels in my blog sidebar.) And since I'm not currently working on any Jeans Quilts, I've listed some pre-cut Jeans squares on eBay as well.

Colored ones, too!

Anytime you want to see my current craft items that are for sale, see the "ProsperityStuff on eBay" and "ProsperityStuff on Etsy" tabs in my blog header. (On the mobile version of this site, click next to the word "Home" for the pages/tabs menu, or click here for my eBay listings and here for my Etsy listings.

More Fleece-and-Jeans Quilting ...

In the past few weeks, I've been sewing a lot of denim & jeans ... with pleasing results. :-)
Here's the latest fleece-and-jeans quilt.

ProsperityStuff Denim Jeans Quilt Top

(Apparently, it's all the rage to take quilt pictures with one's feet in the picture. No one's sure why. But, since I was wearing my favorite socks, I can go with it here ...)

This fleece-and-jeans quilt is a wedding gift for a friend who's getting married soon - so I had fun with the little custom detail of including their initials with a heart between ...

It's about the size of my couch, so it makes a good (big) throw-size quilt that's warm & fuzzy ...

Putting congratulations & best wishes into tangible form - into something warm and cozy - into something unique and customized - that's my kind of fun!

Finished Carolina Panthers Quilt

It's done! The Black-Jeans quilt with my rendition of a Carolina Panthers logo (I mentioned my inspiration in my post a couple months ago) is all finished!

I realize that the above picture looks a lot like the picture from my post a month ago, when the quilt was not done, but there are a lot of differences ...

Some quilting ...

Diagonally through most of the squares ... except in those spots where pockets and labels made that impractical.

Since the backing is awesome, sturdy velvety-plush-fleece, and since there's no batting, the quilt didn't need much quilting, just enough to hold it together.

I love the backing! Super-soft and fuzzy.

The edging turned out pretty cool. I decided to go for simple, and just turn the already-finished edge of the fleece to the front and zig-zag.

The corners aren't perfect, but I'm OK with that.

As usual, I love all the fun jeans-y details in the quilt ...

Oh, and since it's enormous (80" x 80", I think, but I forgot to measure), this quilt weighs a ton. I think we're going to especially enjoy this when colder weather comes ... which will be just in time for football season ...

Really happy with the way this one turned out.

Carolina Panthers Jeans Quilt: Progress

Progress is happening on the Carolina Panthers Jeans Quilt (that I mentioned previously here). I got the appliquƩ edges all stitched with a tight zig-zag.

As I was debating what to do with the remaining bits of raggedy-appliquƩ edges, my older son came to the rescue with his pocketknife-scissors.

He was happy to help me by snipping some of the most glaring random-threads that were sticking out.

ProsperityStuff Panthers Jeans Quilt Trim

I had a stack of a bunch of pairs of black jeans, so I spent some time cutting and sewing this week.

I decided to cut 10-inch squares this time, which is bigger than my usual for jeans quilts. But for this quilt, I like the size.

I was delighted to find a pair of thrift-store jeans that were already color-coordinated for this project! Black jeans, teal and white accents: perfect!

Details are always fun. Beaded jeans!

I've got half of the quilt pieced, and the other half partially done.
Here, the Panther is just laid on top of the quilt in the area where it belongs.

I've got some plush fleecy black backing for this quilt that's going to be really nice.
More details coming when I get more progress made!

Black Jeans Quilt Progress

The Panthers Jeans Quilt (that I mentioned recently) is in progress ...

I spent some time with my iron, getting all those pieces ironed onto some black jeans background ...

All those little edges are getting sewn down ...

Then it'll be time for some jeans-squares to make the rest of the quilt ...

More Jeans

Since jeans quilts are so fun, and I just can't help myself, I've started another one!
The green one is still in progress, but yes, this is another one.

I've had a stack of black jeans and white jeans for a while, waiting for the perfect project. Some sort of bluejeans quilt, with a twist.

I thought about a barcode quilt (saw one here; way cool), but wasn't ready to try that one. Even though there are barcode-generating websites. Even though you can type words or a web address and it will generate a barcode (that a smartphone can scan!). Even though I went to this website and generated this code, which is the web address for my blog:

So, yeah. Might have to try that sometime in quilt form. So people can scan the quilt with their smartphones. Or whatever.

But not right now. I wanted to make a jeans quilt, and couldn't figure out what I really wanted to make.

My husband had the perfect inspiration a couple weeks ago: he asked if it would be possible to make a jeans quilt with a Carolina Panthers logo sewn into it. Genius!

Yes. I could make that happen.

Perfect idea! So, I took the idea and I'm running with it.

This is going to be fun. Already is, in fact.
Fun fact: I discovered that the Carolina Panthers just introduced a new, updated logo. (Who knew? I hadn't noticed yet. But sure enough ...)

Here's my rendition ... the teal and the white, to be put onto a black jeans background.
The big one is the actual size my panther will be, about 40" wide.

Right now, I'm at the stage where I've traced and cut and ironed Heat'n'Bond pieces on my fabrics, so they're ready to iron on to the black jeans background. Then I'm going to sew the edges of the appliques down securely. I briefly considered trying to stitch all the teal stuff and white stuff into the black jeans, patchwork style, instead of applique. Briefly.

So, sometime soon, I'm planning to iron these on, then sew them on, then add the rest of the jeans around the Carolina centerpiece ... It's been fun. 'Round here, we'll enjoy a Carolina Panthers jeans quilt. Not to be confused with the OTHER Carolina Panthers quilt, which is also still in progress. :-)

Green Jeans

After making a bunch of blue jeans quilts, I wanted to try a jeans quilt that's a different kind of unique.

Of course, that meant I had to try a green jeans quilt. Here it is, in the works ...

I was pleased to find a few pairs of thrift store jeans in a variety of greens ... but of course, they were mostly deep greens and olive greens ...

So I decided I should try to brighten the greenness with some lighter colors. Not finding any bright or light green jeans in a short time frame, I thought I'd try something different: Why not dye some white or khaki jeans?

I did. I dyed a white pair and a khaki pair of jeans with Kelly Green dye, and I dyed a white pair and an olive pair of jeans with Dark Green dye. The jeans turned out neither kelly green nor dark green, but that's OK: I got two or three shades of green that I didn't have before, and that was the point!

That gave me quite a variety of greens. (Maybe too much variety? I'm still deciding.)

So, it's a work in progress. I alternated 13" whole squares with 13" pieced squares. I've got them sewn into rows, and I hope to get the rows all stitched together soon.

I'm still deciding whether this is too much green. We shall see. (It may depend on whether I back the quilt with fleece or with that super-fuzzy-furry light green blanket I saw at Wal-Mart ... still considering my options.)

Anyhoo ... I LOVE this particular green in the picture below. It's one of the dyed-by-me greens, which is pretty cool.

Another Fleece and Jeans Quilt!

In the past few months, I've made a lot of jeans quilts. I finished another one this week!

This one is for my youngest son. He's the only kid that didn't have a fleece-backed-jeans-quilt yet.

So he's a happy guy. He's had his fleece blanket on his bed for a while, so I (finally) sewed up the jeans, and stitched them onto his fleece.

As always, I've had fun with all the jeans-y details on the quilt.

As usual, these are partly jeans we've used, and partly thrift-store jeans. (Love it when they have those 50-cent sales!) For a change, I decided to alternate big squares (cut at 13") with my usual small ones.

For other jeans quilt history, click the "Jeans" label in the sidebar ... This makes my #5 jeans quilt for my kids ... plus I've made occasional other jeans quilts for gifts ...

Anyway, now that each of the kids has a super-cozy, fuzzy fleece-and-jeans quilt ... for some reason, we're thinkin' that the grownups around here might need one ...

Working on that ... more details later, but here's a sneak peek ...
