Gingham finishing

I'm hoping to get the binding on the Gingham quilt today ... Here's a picture of the back of the quilt.

I love how the custom-quilting looks, even from the back.

I'm hoping to post some "all done" photos soon!

Quilt-As-You-Go in Progress

Today, I'm starting the assembling-process for this quilt. The blocks are all pieced & quilted. Today I'm trimming the blocks & getting them ready to put together.

More bits and pieces ...

Lately, I have a long list of friends-and-relations-expecting-babies, which is lots of fun.

So, one weekend when I had some time, I started putting together some bits and pieces of a few baby quilts.

It's been fun. I'll show better pictures later, after some of the quilts have been given, and/or babies have arrived. But for now, a few sneak peeks:

Putting little squares into some white fabric ...

Doing a little custom free-motioning ...

And some regular free-motioning ... (Pardon the wrinkliness ... that's the coziness trying to show, after putting the finished quilt thru the washer & dryer!)

I'll post some more "finished pics" later ...

Double Wedding Ring - Gingham style

I've been trying something new ...

Perhaps inspired by the idea of the Double Wedding Ring Quilting challenge, and definitely inspired by another blogger who's been making a beautiful first-ever Double Wedding Ring quilt ... I've been thinking that if I could make a block, I could probably try making an actual quilt with some batik fabric I just bought ...

So, for starters, I traced templates onto gingham ...

... did some sewing ...

... and some seam-ripping ...

... and got things almost flat, after lots of pressing ...

... and made my version of a Double Wedding Ring quilt block!

For now, the "block" is round, so I guess I should add "corners" in white to get it ready to join the other gingham blocks in my sampler quilt ...

I'm making this up as I go along, but the plan is to have white sashing between however many gingham blocks I end up making ... So far, the block total is up to 8!

Gingham Striped Square blocks

Not long ago, I added this one to my gingham block collection:

It's an idea I've been wanting to try. (Sew 4 strips together, then cut triangles out of that, then sew 4 triangles into a square.) My technique isn't perfect, but I like the idea, and I'd definitely like to make more of these some time.

Simple. Not complicated. Again, lots of white with the gingham ...

So, this block joins the others in the crowd ...

Gingham Maverick Star blocks!

This was a fun block to add to my collection of Gingham blocks ...

Maverick Stars, which I've been wanting to try for a while. Inspiration here and here and here.

Fun to try a new setting. So, this adds to my collection of 12(ish)-inch gingham blocks ... blog-post links below the other blocks.

Gingham Triangles block

Triangles. Such a simple quilt-block concept. I like it.

I've seen awesome quilts made from just triangles set like this. My favorites are probably the ones made from shirts and sheets, with lots of dark stripes and plaids, and lots of light solids.

So, I wanted my gingham-sampler project to include a simple triangles block.

For more of the gingham-sampler blocks I've made, check the "Gingham" label in my blog sidebar.

Gingham French Braid quilt blocks

One of the fun things about playing with my gingham fabrics is that I decided to try some quilt block styles that I haven't made before.

I've made quilt braids before, but not the kind with the little cornerstones. I think that's what makes these French braids. Something like that.

The little white cornerstones work well, since I'm trying to keep plenty of white in each block.

These were easier than I expected.

I decided to try a "warm colors" block and a "cool colors" block.

Pleased with how these turned out.

This brings the Gingham-Block total up to four.

As usual, more are in the works!

Gingham 36-Patch

A little more gingham patchwork ... made of the gingham colors I've been saving up.

Just a basic 36-patch in lots of colors.

I like it.

It'll finish at around 12 inches.

And, after the Mosaic block got trimmed, it turned out nice and neat:

More blocks in the works ... stay tuned!
