That's especially true with quilt-making. The colors, the patterns, the combinations ... I love them! I recently found that my local Walmart was clearance-ing some of the Pioneer Woman one-yard fabric packages. I love a good deal, so I bought some!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here, I'm preparing to make some quilt-y kaleidoscopes. It's hard to tell in the picture below, but each of these triangles is actually a stack of SIX identical triangles.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhJR_k1zBuXwlt_hMN-VMMwT1gcGO7AJlgyM7wTXyPdNibWyK3VP-ohuu3BbZ_ojZ4-NNzsDo18nQwjzbV9Xeb1V9umfyqXkDemjq3ihtBWQk4qHJ7bazu-0qqUMfKKv2e_RdVM-O4FOLS6dn6dBhcBpPGOgHs3HAE3OmbK3J2oHXR7ud4Ayazj0R9x" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger -- cutting 60-degree triangles for kaleidoscopes" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhJR_k1zBuXwlt_hMN-VMMwT1gcGO7AJlgyM7wTXyPdNibWyK3VP-ohuu3BbZ_ojZ4-NNzsDo18nQwjzbV9Xeb1V9umfyqXkDemjq3ihtBWQk4qHJ7bazu-0qqUMfKKv2e_RdVM-O4FOLS6dn6dBhcBpPGOgHs3HAE3OmbK3J2oHXR7ud4Ayazj0R9x=w277-h400" title="Susana Neiger -- cutting 60-degree triangles for kaleidoscopes" width="277" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>With the six triangles, I'm planning to make hexagon kaleidoscopes. One of the fun things about these kaleidoscopes is ... The same overall fabric makes so many unique designs. (To see some of my other kaleidoscope quilts, just click the <a href="https://prosperitystuff.blogspot.com/search/label/Kaleidoscope" target="_blank">"Kaleidoscopes" label</a> on the blog sidebar.)</div><div><br /></div><div>But also, the same triangle set has three distinct possibilities. This fabric is definitely too cute to waste! I was incredibly inspired by <a href="https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/cake-mix-pre-cuts-friendly-quilt-patterns/" target="_blank">Amy Smart's Ganache Quilt</a>. And, since it's made of triangles and squares, it was perfect for me: I could cut my quilt components with absolutely no waste! </div><div><br /></div><div>I took one stack of 5-inch charm squares and cut each piece in quarters -- so I had four small squares of each print. I took the other stack of 5-inch charm squares, and cut each piece in half diagonally -- so I had two triangles of each print. (I don't have the actual pattern, so I don't know how the inspiration quilt was made. But after looking at it, this is what I came up with.)</div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE4ONGOShWuPxj6-blwSmRNSwx42QxhbKEnjejZGdCOWHe-oK4G1jgWN6B2AshZiD7kRGgzrJD_AwB3XH1SB4hBu4cemB2zO1W711kljSAuu9rhbLvwhN0qdkxtIjr3Of3iZ0CXoTIrHpYBdCeqMTxlXGRV7gZb0YzXWxZVFaMYpIR4PT_rnzoGL73/s3357/IMG_20220917_161038311.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger -- quilt components: squares and triangles" border="0" data-original-height="3357" data-original-width="2592" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE4ONGOShWuPxj6-blwSmRNSwx42QxhbKEnjejZGdCOWHe-oK4G1jgWN6B2AshZiD7kRGgzrJD_AwB3XH1SB4hBu4cemB2zO1W711kljSAuu9rhbLvwhN0qdkxtIjr3Of3iZ0CXoTIrHpYBdCeqMTxlXGRV7gZb0YzXWxZVFaMYpIR4PT_rnzoGL73/w247-h320/IMG_20220917_161038311.jpg" title="Susana Neiger -- quilt components: squares and triangles" width="247" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Since I loved the look of Amy's quilt, I wanted mine to look like hers ... mostly. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhTN4qnSeExTk7UMH9sG7y5mnHhIzGUd4xy60KCM-hEc1CUfBm_tBiDP5jM76TYibemWl_T89zUhpxIuovnAUHnmQLp9XSpqsvFcomEWKxKkKs7cw3fSWdK0qswHhxOqCKQGKh_3hw1B2xVu4godphqD5p2iTwNSNKLmDMiUbAs18hM7OPk_j5lC4y8" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">

</div><div><br /></div><div>Playing with yarn and color is one of the things I enjoy. I especially like the yarns that have a very slow color change like this one. </div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Since I'm so satisfied with the results, even all this time later, I'm blogging about it. My usual blog topics are a lot more centered around fiber-crafts, but in the spirit of sharing creative ideas, this one's pretty practical.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3061" data-original-width="2218" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEcxN6w8WYtCmeoZJ1tk86UIsUOk5K2svZdoXyT82hzlfzqSqaYMPy4Sh_7x9eaG9eQC6J7N1B8Ot7OycYR4Ep3UcylNmRbtfSNRF5RGIwSW7s74Q9JoKrK6sh5OOzWZ65e7A9WkD4hZc/s320/IMG_20180709_205906139.jpg"></div><p style="text-align: left;">When I wanted to paint my front door, I couldn't find any tutorials or DIY explanations online that related to my kind of front door. So, when I worked on the project, I took pictures, hoping to blog about it some day. And then I waited a while, so I could give honest suggestions, knowing that it had worked AND lasted. </p><p style="text-align: left;">My metal front door had a wood-grain-look finish on it, and the finish was slowly bubbling up and flaking off. This door had been facing the unrelenting afternoon sun for nearly two decades, so I wasn't surprised. But I was disturbed to find that little chunks of wood-look would disappear and would reveal the dark, shiny metal of the door. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvfiU3LKrwVm4E4DblNtzI4BhyoxmoNQOeUKhyKEGB8INsc5a3qN7HT_t_nsFeYr8Y1HiFm9R9qfNEN83ArnlkEQRTJvONZYvlsRufsoTaAxc0fZ87yTUb2fCoobRJZfcGfPPZ3pQeoFk/s2470/IMG_20180702_111535982.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2470" data-original-width="1741" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvfiU3LKrwVm4E4DblNtzI4BhyoxmoNQOeUKhyKEGB8INsc5a3qN7HT_t_nsFeYr8Y1HiFm9R9qfNEN83ArnlkEQRTJvONZYvlsRufsoTaAxc0fZ87yTUb2fCoobRJZfcGfPPZ3pQeoFk/s320/IMG_20180702_111535982.jpg"></a></div><p style="text-align: left;">When I wanted to start the project, I did what any modern DIY-er does: searched the internet. For some reason, on this topic the internet was surprisingly unhelpful. Nobody seemed to be talking about what to do about repairing textured finishes.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Since I didn't find any online how-to help for my exact project, I pieced together the useful ideas I found, and I just gave it a try. I'm sharing my project here, in case anyone else is looking for advice on how to paint a metal front door.</div><p>Here's another close-up of the "before" look on one of the panels of the door. The finish layer was bubbling, cracking, and flaking off. Even when I tried to touch-up paint the bare spots, there was an obvious texture problem.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0FZ0fJ_ObYhA2D43HRd4UVcsQPGruJk9vnGXHxyY6xnhqzdw51l7SEILJTS7LVVvpvrZb6K4Xay4huxCPw_ed-Qw9GHmjk3qB8kOGSuoC3K637guvWRUW532RA3MXaUKAovPn4_-M3Kc/s2986/IMG_20180702_111531072.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2986" data-original-width="2311" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0FZ0fJ_ObYhA2D43HRd4UVcsQPGruJk9vnGXHxyY6xnhqzdw51l7SEILJTS7LVVvpvrZb6K4Xay4huxCPw_ed-Qw9GHmjk3qB8kOGSuoC3K637guvWRUW532RA3MXaUKAovPn4_-M3Kc/s320/IMG_20180702_111531072.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I wanted to find a way get the door back to looking good, but I didn't have a way to repair or replace the wood-grain finish. The white stuff felt like it was a thin layer of brittle vinyl or plastic, so when it flaked off, not only did it show the dark metal beneath, but it also left a void in the door's texture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I started by scraping the flaking finish. I used a basic putty knife for most of the work. I didn't use any chemical remover solutions, because the plain scraper was pretty effective.</div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisCFO6kUEsYyJDmuQPLREUn5cEhFPd18SJdPk7zgfhkfb0dIBhfKfCHTuO4d-AhMuleTM-hu83cJRThnaJUooKjwtudvtRvvXXOVm1xoLawJuzB7sSzN4nG7lrYl4yN8AFGjQhcnypK8s/s3264/IMG_20180702_111525070.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisCFO6kUEsYyJDmuQPLREUn5cEhFPd18SJdPk7zgfhkfb0dIBhfKfCHTuO4d-AhMuleTM-hu83cJRThnaJUooKjwtudvtRvvXXOVm1xoLawJuzB7sSzN4nG7lrYl4yN8AFGjQhcnypK8s/s320/IMG_20180702_111525070.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Some of the finish flaked off immediately; some of it required more work. It's also water-based, which makes cleanup easier. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Just for the record, my favorite drop cloths for jobs like this are cheap shower curtains, the kind you can buy for a dollar or two at your favorite dollar store or one-stop-shopping store.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI5dsLZAdx2JwBAXAK2euBiYbbHW0M-NLLoKuCdm75u8tSOLwz2-BuCivbjHEy213VAaW9m_jybnj6-wcaIOpXnKajEy4JR40kpHTrYhdxJ-sloQ1L0yCZ4qAKrEoWr0gBZy2xhYO2rxM/s3264/IMG_20180702_131722286.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI5dsLZAdx2JwBAXAK2euBiYbbHW0M-NLLoKuCdm75u8tSOLwz2-BuCivbjHEy213VAaW9m_jybnj6-wcaIOpXnKajEy4JR40kpHTrYhdxJ-sloQ1L0yCZ4qAKrEoWr0gBZy2xhYO2rxM/s320/IMG_20180702_131722286.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I decided not to remove the doorknobs or hinges or anything, mostly because I needed the front door to be functional during the several days that I was working on the door. So, I taped around the doorknobs and hinges with painter's tape and just tried to be careful. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I found that multiple coats of primer is a good idea, and that's what I recommend on a project like this: at least two coats of primer. The first coat of primer tends to look a little thin on bare metal, and on any dark surface, you need good coverage; giving it a second coat of primer provides the needed additional protection and coverage. Even if you have to paint on three coats of primer to get good coverage, it's worth it, especially since primer is usually cheaper than paint.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcu_MvqIby59a9gVZr4x0llDAPpqVb9HweA8tbnwJRG8l_hzWtDybpB1fvncmOjGnxSZvI1DrybMNk6wZah-6kRjgHVuu5zz5oUMi6hY7ZUeEyWUtR9I064WnkEAYXX4DKNV8rlD83xfo/s3004/IMG_20180702_145323280.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3004" data-original-width="2169" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcu_MvqIby59a9gVZr4x0llDAPpqVb9HweA8tbnwJRG8l_hzWtDybpB1fvncmOjGnxSZvI1DrybMNk6wZah-6kRjgHVuu5zz5oUMi6hY7ZUeEyWUtR9I064WnkEAYXX4DKNV8rlD83xfo/s320/IMG_20180702_145323280.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I just decided to use a regular paintbrush, not a roller or a foam brush. With a Purpose<p>Over the years, I've done a lot of crocheting ... everything from fine-thread doilies to worsted-yarn afghans. I'm pretty sure my first real crochet projects were made from granny squares, which explains why I can almost crochet granny squares with my eyes closed! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkr7IuTJ3ysA2_M8C5Blkaag9F5Mppe6yBL9u0_xDCL4E0Yq9S2b9UkH-glmDWmAqzcxEsD88SGOl-kWhyphenhyphenIOvFk46RWoT8_DzqQTcmgsBiIpJsMlUSJ7Vp0uuc-jOUHJofzxn_2VKhml0/s3264/IMG_20200323_233636971.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger charity crochet: Blue-White Granny Square" border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkr7IuTJ3ysA2_M8C5Blkaag9F5Mppe6yBL9u0_xDCL4E0Yq9S2b9UkH-glmDWmAqzcxEsD88SGOl-kWhyphenhyphenIOvFk46RWoT8_DzqQTcmgsBiIpJsMlUSJ7Vp0uuc-jOUHJofzxn_2VKhml0/w150-h200/IMG_20200323_233636971.jpg" title="Susana Neiger charity crochet: Blue-White Granny Square" width="150" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFicX9lO3LsYkOt9AJgYVs-7XEjmzztZfE8vypvEfeHkQ-OL2cLU4f1bC8g-VtQ09gQRCLync8OjCLjO5R5Y_r2onbyar4e76oAgPJTL2STIUnoEgAp7vH2BoCAWx6Gkjm49T978dNTU8/s4608/IMG_20210515_141609109.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger charity crochet: Brown-Green-Blue Granny Square" border="0" data-original-height="4608" data-original-width="3456" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFicX9lO3LsYkOt9AJgYVs-7XEjmzztZfE8vypvEfeHkQ-OL2cLU4f1bC8g-VtQ09gQRCLync8OjCLjO5R5Y_r2onbyar4e76oAgPJTL2STIUnoEgAp7vH2BoCAWx6Gkjm49T978dNTU8/w150-h200/IMG_20210515_141609109.jpg" title="Susana Neiger charity crochet: Brown-Green-Blue Granny Square" width="150" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuEWa-UyejSqyyVJGvFc8xIhlc0yEuZJEuwHVkhzAo3CqIvJvbpTkf9KpRW4dY9253z1hcBvWlGrd1CeVh6-atiYD3xRLShGcEd7vmAAt_5Jc2KzGfy3CTjdDbjqLXg5dbU_-80LqpMic/s4608/IMG_20210512_191100059.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger charity crochet: Black & Colorful Granny Square" border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuEWa-UyejSqyyVJGvFc8xIhlc0yEuZJEuwHVkhzAo3CqIvJvbpTkf9KpRW4dY9253z1hcBvWlGrd1CeVh6-atiYD3xRLShGcEd7vmAAt_5Jc2KzGfy3CTjdDbjqLXg5dbU_-80LqpMic/w320-h240/IMG_20210512_191100059.jpg" title="Susana Neiger charity crochet: Black & Colorful Granny Square" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>For a few years, I didn't crochet much at all. Hence, I'll be posting occasionally in my "Quilts Revisited" series -- projects I'm revisiting because I didn't give them their moment on the blog when I finished them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Many moons ago, I made a bunch of beautiful kaleidoscope blocks, some of which went into <a href="https://prosperitystuff.blogspot.com/2013/12/finished-kaleidoscope-hexagons-with.html" target="_blank">a finished quilt in 2013</a>. The "extra" kaleidoscope blocks just sat waiting for something to do. </div>

And, why have a boring quilt-back if you don't have to? Am I right? I tried a little custom quilting in the borders, which is always fun.<br />

The quilt became a gift to bring a little warmth and cheer to a friend who's had a tough couple of years with health problems and hospitalizations. I guess if I could send a hug through the mail, it would look a lot like a quilt!</div>

Hence, I'll be posting occasionally in my "Quilts Revisited" series -- projects I'm revisiting because I didn't give them their moment on the blog when I finished them.</p><p>My great-great-grandmother's Dresden Plate quilt. I blogged about this quilt only a couple of times ... I was working on it in 2016 and blogged about it <a href="https://prosperitystuff.blogspot.com/2016/06/ufos-are-coming-right-along.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>, then briefly <a href="https://prosperitystuff.blogspot.com/2017/08/sunday-sewing.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a> in 2017. Then, <a href="https://prosperitystuff.blogspot.com/2018/06/the-vintage-dresden-plate-quilt.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a> in 2018, I started to write about how I had finished it up in 2017. </p><p>Anyway, I never posted the finished pictures, so here they are. Behold, my great-great-grandmother's hand-pieced Dresden Plate quilt!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOBWlHp_bBWfxcaw1EJNqDjKA-CRwIBZmbqoBOSDACGZnA0w2edKsIeIQ5P6MM4-g330zbPjm30URt33raSUmKVRqcTn42BoDQmPiBazMdjt_tGNPvJ6E-AtRLGTt4qZnKMWR6wL1i1Q4/s3264/IMG_20170919_141836_516.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger's great-great grandmother Minnie Belle's Vintage Dresden Plate Quilt" border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="3264" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOBWlHp_bBWfxcaw1EJNqDjKA-CRwIBZmbqoBOSDACGZnA0w2edKsIeIQ5P6MM4-g330zbPjm30URt33raSUmKVRqcTn42BoDQmPiBazMdjt_tGNPvJ6E-AtRLGTt4qZnKMWR6wL1i1Q4/w320-h240/IMG_20170919_141836_516.jpg" title="Susana Neiger's great-great grandmother Minnie Belle's Vintage Dresden Plate Quilt" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>My great-great-grandmother, Minnie Belle Causbie Foreman, died before I was born. We decided that machine-quilting would be the best thing, and my mom trusted me to do the quilting. Even though these vintage quilt tops were hand-pieced, none of us was ever going to hand-quilt them. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEB_gCN3jPdSyLmmgHPFYRoWXgjuBi7JSGzeOkFUQLFDRXK39cVMNTYBMzIafj2RCo_CYOMRkxbxYMt-AE7XOJ4z3nYO5mynOy2ztpDIviDSZEQF5XzNtHZwRKHBWv12pLuOlw6J2Ql24/s2592/IMG_20150830_154152235.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Susana Neiger shares Minnie Belle Causbie Foreman's Dresden Plate Quilt" border="0" data-original-height="1944" data-original-width="2592" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEB_gCN3jPdSyLmmgHPFYRoWXgjuBi7JSGzeOkFUQLFDRXK39cVMNTYBMzIafj2RCo_CYOMRkxbxYMt-AE7XOJ4z3nYO5mynOy2ztpDIviDSZEQF5XzNtHZwRKHBWv12pLuOlw6J2Ql24/w320-h240/IMG_20150830_154152235.jpg" title="Susana Neiger shares Minnie Belle Causbie Foreman's Dresden Plate Quilt" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To begin with, I added an outer border since the quilt had none. I like to talk about my projects ... partly as a record of what I've been working on, and partly to inspire and help others who have similar interests. </p><p>I'm still cross-stitching. Last year, I picked up my cross-stitching, after it had sat in a box for many years. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6HhpqesxnEMD5LGGVe2RWuExvtE35Ie5wmggmMYr84-StKRH_Zi1VN91FDkNepc7tdqNEPIR7VxCSCJkJ4MsYbXF_fiuBZb_g3JPiGB69O1LJi2BUCq-iC9hahzWTe35OQvaDkVUIh-U/s4608/IMG_20210710_125403924.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ProsperityStuff: Cross-stitch in progress" border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="4608" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6HhpqesxnEMD5LGGVe2RWuExvtE35Ie5wmggmMYr84-StKRH_Zi1VN91FDkNepc7tdqNEPIR7VxCSCJkJ4MsYbXF_fiuBZb_g3JPiGB69O1LJi2BUCq-iC9hahzWTe35OQvaDkVUIh-U/w320-h240/IMG_20210710_125403924.jpg" title="ProsperityStuff: Cross-stitch in progress" width="320"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have two big projects in progress ... It's been a while since I've blogged much, but I've always got projects in the works! <div><br /></div><div>Every now and then, I realize that I should start a blog series on the topic of "Quilts I Forgot to Blog About!" Or, better yet, "<i>Projects</i> I Forgot to Blog About," since there are plenty of not-quilty projects that are always happening. </div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, just to get started, I thought I'd share some quick photos of my recent and current projects. (After all, where<i> does</i> one start to blog again after an 18-month break?!) Pictures are important to a blog post, so here are a bunch. Any of these may turn up in a longer post soon, but this will be a good way to get back to it. </div><div><br /></div><div>In no particular order, here are some quick looks at things I've been doing in the past few months.</div><div><br /></div><div>Quilts remain a perennial favorite. Each of these projects was special and fun, and I finished all of them in the past year. (Two of them were started long ago, and two were started and finished in just a few months.) I'm hoping they'll each become a blog post soon, but for now, here are some sneak peeks:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHLLMSv2t0i64cplQoVrtNxOzS_OjLopa87aOjBGzMx0_3jlQsEnIq93yMmOZfO9OX9lONaVV0HnNA8oVTjUwlaoIun8SCGzxKER2uqAKNwpUHSpeQCMyJP8z-CfDIM-3eE3OkyWp7Yvo/s3264/IMG_20201122_180203225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Pastel Calico Quilt" border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHLLMSv2t0i64cplQoVrtNxOzS_OjLopa87aOjBGzMx0_3jlQsEnIq93yMmOZfO9OX9lONaVV0HnNA8oVTjUwlaoIun8SCGzxKER2uqAKNwpUHSpeQCMyJP8z-CfDIM-3eE3OkyWp7Yvo/w150-h200/IMG_20201122_180203225.jpg" title="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Pastel Calico Quilt" width="150" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL-lF-KyYvIZ-FRSIgY4lm1LmUa2moVUPdU8oHs24Q87d6R-s8xXA2-OmdTNHuEdw-85bXWw2T_5deUBMOcvpQzCI_KS_7DTCrQ8wSVFOv6XihGlcajPgZZVarBUKRH5eMZMzYYQRGhlY/s3264/IMG_20201206_205531023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Christmas Tree Quilt" border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL-lF-KyYvIZ-FRSIgY4lm1LmUa2moVUPdU8oHs24Q87d6R-s8xXA2-OmdTNHuEdw-85bXWw2T_5deUBMOcvpQzCI_KS_7DTCrQ8wSVFOv6XihGlcajPgZZVarBUKRH5eMZMzYYQRGhlY/w150-h200/IMG_20201206_205531023.jpg" title="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Christmas Tree Quilt" width="150" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzTnMANxYfA0pp01rmUO4LuSpCLykQM_DyscAHsI0HABY9XF4xRng6Bxiaa39p8g6L251xIKVL-hjika7apQSpCqTNEdu1dlMGLn8cY4R7zyWM5_URqc43FR9e-hWDnjQ_qZfAQC0UJ3s/s3264/IMG_20210101_173559711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Calypso-style Tri-Recs Quilt" border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzTnMANxYfA0pp01rmUO4LuSpCLykQM_DyscAHsI0HABY9XF4xRng6Bxiaa39p8g6L251xIKVL-hjika7apQSpCqTNEdu1dlMGLn8cY4R7zyWM5_URqc43FR9e-hWDnjQ_qZfAQC0UJ3s/w150-h200/IMG_20210101_173559711.jpg" title="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Calypso-style Tri-Recs Quilt" width="150" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggE2g4P9pEesI51lmSYpGhqr9OsTjjCNdavg8fvgb7DDkDBj8OaVeNUyui_Dun9Qp7Ivnk5YtRCMoO4dtF4HCldGXOJeO76sI8KufpH4Xe6azMnapx6V1_FMFxCnxjqa14CXJV14KW2Xw/s3264/IMG_20210411_194002255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Gatekeeper-style wedding gift quilt" border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggE2g4P9pEesI51lmSYpGhqr9OsTjjCNdavg8fvgb7DDkDBj8OaVeNUyui_Dun9Qp7Ivnk5YtRCMoO4dtF4HCldGXOJeO76sI8KufpH4Xe6azMnapx6V1_FMFxCnxjqa14CXJV14KW2Xw/w150-h200/IMG_20210411_194002255.jpg" title="ProsperityStuff Quilts: Gatekeeper-style wedding gift quilt" width="150" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Crochet projects have kept me busy. (Haha! But, seriously!)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKV1EhE-zZgFuzOpblHkguK8rA9wAUoQk5msu5v9uaadUwnlQ-SuLGBJJIR_IfI9ij7GZiFV4CH9cFYzDPgxU5QvfcuozpQO512RXoITJWdg13jrSLoUvsgKAE9qYhbIOKwe1oLVporXw/s1600/IMG_20180908_185558325_BURST001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKV1EhE-zZgFuzOpblHkguK8rA9wAUoQk5msu5v9uaadUwnlQ-SuLGBJJIR_IfI9ij7GZiFV4CH9cFYzDPgxU5QvfcuozpQO512RXoITJWdg13jrSLoUvsgKAE9qYhbIOKwe1oLVporXw/s320/IMG_20180908_185558325_BURST001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I like to keep a little latchable something on my keys (so I can attach them to my purse and not lose my mind), and the plain loop thing I had on my key ring got worn out. The keys go on the ring end, of course, and it's long enough that I can clip it to the ring on my purse, but still tuck the mess of keys into the pocket of my purse.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSUWrJwVD8zxGB_sY_Tiy_ZsLAojBVosBICu2aroq1v6fQZsIK-izQDdfclcQLwlT3ZkZydSiNRCB2exW9L-2x4IUM5-Qs8F-INFW4FXWaktbqw-T2Y78LoqhXy-mn0Z6C9DhVVPPusKI/s1600/IMG_20180908_184718162.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSUWrJwVD8zxGB_sY_Tiy_ZsLAojBVosBICu2aroq1v6fQZsIK-izQDdfclcQLwlT3ZkZydSiNRCB2exW9L-2x4IUM5-Qs8F-INFW4FXWaktbqw-T2Y78LoqhXy-mn0Z6C9DhVVPPusKI/s320/IMG_20180908_184718162.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
So, quilty scraps got made into this! I made a quilt-y "tube" out of scraps, and added the the nylon webbing-strap through the "tube" (the full length of it, folding it around the key ring on one end, and around the clasp-thing on the other end). The ends of the nylon strap got tucked back into the "tube", and the ends got stitched securely.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
This is the first time I've made something like this, and I had my doubts about how durable it would be. But it's lasted over a year now, and it's still going strong. It's a fun use for the funny little purse-clasp and nylon strap that I saved from some other random thing.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm2ahbIm7TjOfvqY29jEWkPtfUVLdlyywvbIZY8yaxF5AniZIb3qQNBArkhAI5ENyi9_em_pFDGMG_aqpKT3yaWWLKe5VJZRVjsmT2gGz0-prWy9hqDA3l3HyJ5lHnK1ISXWCHQ2tqQqM/s1600/IMG_20180908_185550118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm2ahbIm7TjOfvqY29jEWkPtfUVLdlyywvbIZY8yaxF5AniZIb3qQNBArkhAI5ENyi9_em_pFDGMG_aqpKT3yaWWLKe5VJZRVjsmT2gGz0-prWy9hqDA3l3HyJ5lHnK1ISXWCHQ2tqQqM/s320/IMG_20180908_185550118.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
(Honestly, though, I wasn't too concerned: if I had to make another one, it's not like I've got a shortage of materials!)<br />

Earlier this year, I made this little pink-and-neutrals afghan.<br />
Here are a couple of pics...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoyed making this little afghan ... super-easy pattern, consisting of all double crochet stitches.</div>

This pattern (and other color pics) can be seen on Pinterest here: (<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/544231936217974023/" target="_blank">this pin</a>, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/544231936218127520/" target="_blank">this pin</a>, and <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/Af9aL24SlIDEvzA1p4YX7aTJ9IXBoOAFCtV8bUzIpUcYJPCEA1K9BVA/" target="_blank">also this one</a>), as well as at <a href="https://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/cupcake-stripe-blanket.html" target="_blank">this link</a>. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, I made the stripes lengthwise so I could just leave all the yarn ends as fringe (not pictured), starting each row with a new length of yarn, and trimming all the fringe to about 6 inches.</div>

It has been too long since I've posted pictures!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seems like there's always some project in the works. (Ha! Actually, several projects, I should say!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is an afghan I finished earlier this year, for one of my sons. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had fun with the crochet pattern -- it's one I haven't done before. It's super simple, but it turns out looking like a complicated Houndstooth pattern. (Seriously, sc, dc, sc, dc to end. On the next row, coming back, sc in dc, dc in sc, sc in dc, dc in sc. The texture is awesome!)</div>

<br />
The original pattern is called Lumberjack Throw by Kathleen Garen, and, as often happens, I came across it on Pinterest. (See <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/544231936218239582/" target="_blank">this pin</a>.)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's going to be a little afghan. Friends of friends are taking a mission trip and would like to take some baby blankets to take with them to give away.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrYNinHR23k3FZZSTC6cv3C4jQOmBMQieS_QG0YPbYIcZsEOG1z739FJx_DR7SXtK6x2oAGEjTSC0ihne_bqjVYbjIBdWOm5-Wondn-b0Lb85V9JYW5VswK_hHIOr_6SySh7_3BdGnjh0/s1600/IMG_20190811_152109937.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrYNinHR23k3FZZSTC6cv3C4jQOmBMQieS_QG0YPbYIcZsEOG1z739FJx_DR7SXtK6x2oAGEjTSC0ihne_bqjVYbjIBdWOm5-Wondn-b0Lb85V9JYW5VswK_hHIOr_6SySh7_3BdGnjh0/s320/IMG_20190811_152109937.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's a fun collaborative effort, because the yarn was given to me for the project, and I'm enjoying the making, and someone else gets to give it away!</div>

A lot of my crafting lately has been crocheting. Here's what I'm working on today.</div>

In my neverending quest to turn scraps into useful things, I've had some fun making string-blocks out of scraps. </div>

Progress was a little slow ... partly because every row is over 200 stitches long ... and partly because there are almost 200 rows ... and partly because I've had lots of other projects in the works. (Check back soon for pictures of those ones!)</div>
